Annual Meeting Two Inlets Lake Association
August 19, 2007 1:00 pm
The 2007 annual meeting was held on August 19th at St. Mary's Catholic church. The full text of the minutes, including the Treasurer's report, is below. Or click here for a printable PDF file of the minutes.
Interim President Terry Goodrum called the meeting to order. The meeting was opened with the pledge of allegiance followed by introductions of all who attended.
President Goodrum proceeded to give a brief history of their interest in lake activity beginning with the story of Goat Island and the White Pine owners (Greg and Mary Damlo) intent to sell it for development. With a few phone calls, Goodrums discovered it was never an option because the Federal Government had claims to it and have since given it to the Minnesota DNR to own and manage. In June of 2006 Greg Damlo finally dropped any claim to the island.
Goodrums then learned of development activity on the Weigelwood Resort property. A developer was in the process of applying for a 100 foot set back variance for a MURD (Multiple Unit Residential Development). Goodrums, along with the help and interest of John and Ruth Ann Brady, Dorothy N, Mary Jane Keller, Jennifer Bateman and Tom Wagner, put together a petition and proceeded to get 80 signatures and 12 emails sent to the County Planning Board. The variance was turned down on the county level with concerns it wasn’t going to protect the shoreline.
A new plan has been presented for building at Weigelwood Resort called “Cottages at Weigelwood”, a 9 family common family development with a 150 foot set back. The preliminary platt was approved with Northern Resort Development from Rice, MN as developers. The peninsula part of the property is on hold at this time for any development. The next stage will be final platt approval with Planning and Zoning and then sent to the Becker County Board for their approval. No time frame for that as of this meeting.
At the same time it was brought to their attention that Don James was selling his 52 acre property on the south end to developer Gene May. May’s plan was to divide the property into 11 lake lots and 9 back lots with only the 1st tier having access to the lake. A concerned group went to Detroit Lakes to speak at the Planning Committee meeting about concerns. The plan was approved by the committee, as long as it complied with all the county zoning rules. It will be sent back to Planning and Zoning for final platt approval and then on to Becker County Board for its approval. See 8/31/07 update.
It was generally agreed upon that resurrecting the dormant Two Inlets Lake Association was a good idea for educational, informational and social reasons.
President Terry then reported on the Becker County COLA Association and the advantages to belonging. It is a great resource for both education and support for any lake situation that we might have. The cost is #3.00 per paid member to belong and there are currently 30 lake associations in their membership. The monthly meetings are held from April to November.
President Terry also acknowledged several people who have put time and effort into getting the lake group to this point. Valerie Schooly who generously donated her time putting together a new web site – www.twoinletslake.org - which will be used for communicating between members. Lucy Smith donated the sechy disc equipment her husband used to the association.

After lots of discussion motion was made by Dennis G. to purchase 2 buoys with “Slow – No Wake Zone” signs on them to include chains and weights, spending up to $500 and for the Goodrums to put them out, bring them in, monitor and store them each year.
