DNR / Two Inlets Lake Information

There is a wealth of information at the DNR website. Follow this link:
http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/lakefind/index.html and type "Two Inlets" in the Find a Lake box in the upper left corner.

There are maps and general lake information, including lake clarity and water quality.

Water Sampling
The Becker County COLA has received grant money that will be used to study past water monitoring results. This data will be analyzed throughout 2011 with the results to be released sometime later this year. Al and Ginger Guptill are the Two Inlets representatives in this endeavor. Funding will be discussed at the annual meeting.

June 2011:  Letter from Doug Kingsley, DNR

We are planning to stock walleye fingerlings this fall.  Our proposal is to stock walleye fingerlings at a rate of 2 lbs per littoral acre, for 340 lbs total.  That is an increase since 2005 when we were stocking 1 lb/littoral acre (170 lbs total).  The increased stocking is an experiment to see whether it results in increased abundance, or if it has negative effects on other fish species.

Letter from Darrin Hoverson, DNR Aquatic Invasive Specialist:

Hello all,

Attached you will find a summary of the 2011 aquatic invasive species prevention legislation.  This is a summary of how the new laws related to prevention of aquatic invasive species (AIS) now apply boaters, property owners, service providers, bait dealers and others involved with the transportation of water-related equipment.  This was signed into law last week by Gov. Dayton.

Also attached is a summary of the revisions to Minnesota Statute, section 103G.615 from this last session also signed into law by the Governor and are now in effect.  The revisions extend the expiration date of APM  permits to Dec 31, unless otherwise stipulated in rule or in the permit.   This means that variances are no longer required for treatments beyond September 1.  The revisions add a definition of an “invasive aquatic plant management permit,” and for invasive aquatic plant management permits the revision provides alternatives to the annual landowner approval signature requirement required in rule.  In addition, signatures of approval obtained for the issuance of an “invasive aquatic plant management permit” may remain valid for three years.

No changes on the fee end of the APM permits so the fees will still apply to all projects including lake-wide aquatic invasive plant control.

Please pass along to others in your organizations, memberships, local businesses that it may apply to, and any others interested.

Thanks,

Darrin Hoverson
