Development
8/31/07 Update:
From 8/19/07 meeting: President Terry and Dennis Goodrum learned of development activity on the Weigelwood Resort property. A developer was in the process of applying for a 100 foot set back variance for a MURD (Multiple Unit Residential Development). Goodrums, along with the help and interest of John and Ruth Ann Brady, Dorothy N, Mary Jane Keller, Jennifer Bateman and Tom Wagner, put together a petition and proceeded to get 80 signatures and 12 emails sent to the County Planning Board. The variance was turned down on the county level with concerns it wasn’t going to protect the shoreline.
A new plan has been presented for building at Weigelwood Resort called “Cottages at Weigelwood”, (map at left) a nine-family common family development with a 150 foot set back. The preliminary platt was approved with Northern Resort Development from Rice, MN as developers. The peninsula part of the property is on hold at this time for any development. The next stage will be final platt approval with Planning and Zoning and then sent to the Becker County Board for their approval. No time frame for that as of this meeting.
At the same time it was brought to their attention that Don James was selling his 52 acre property on the south end to developer Gene May. May’s plan was to divide the property into 11 lake lots and 9 back lots with only the 1st tier having access to the lake. A concerned group went to Detroit Lakes to speak at the Planning Committee meeting about concerns. The plan was approved by the committee, as long as it complied with all the county zoning rules. It will be sent back to Planning and Zoning for final platt approval and then on to Becker County Board for its approval.
It was generally agreed upon that resurrecting the dormant Two Inlets Lake Association was a good idea for educational, informational and social reasons.
